Book Circles is built around a single sustained commitment: one book, moved through slowly, line by line, across several sittings, rather than consumed in one go.
The pacing is the point.
A book read this way stops being information taken in and starts becoming something closer to a shared internal terrain, one the group returns to again and again, each time from a slightly different place than they left it.
What happens across the sessions is less accumulation of opinions and more a kind of collective interiority forming: the group starts to reach for the book's own language without noticing the borrowing and starts thinking partly through it rather than just about it.
Our intention is to centre collectivism, where we strive to structurally practise it, session by session, as understanding deepens together rather than in fifteen separate, parallel readings. There is a particular, slower form of hope embedded in this process too: the hope that meaning made together holds differently and longer than meaning arrived at alone. The book eventually ends. What the group built in relation to it does not end quite so cleanly.
